EDC were very pleased to get an invite to present at the Cardiff Transition Project Event: ‘Transition Conversations: Managing Resources for Sustainability’. The focus for the evening events is to bring together people from the local community to discuss what climate change and peak oil mean for urban sustainability. The conversations are held at Dempsey’s Pub in Cardiff every 2nd Monday of the month.
Speakers for the event included Frank O’Connor, Director of EDC, and Phil Hurst and Ellen Petts of Cylch, the Wales Community Recycling Network.
The EDC presentation outlined the need to view ecodesign as good design, through exploring what ecodesign means in practice and drawing on recent experiences of working with Welsh companies. Emphasis was placed on the need and opportunity for everyone to take individual responsibility through the many choices they make on a daily basis.
EDC also ran a visioning workshop focusing on medical devices, communications, consumer products, personal mobility and what they could entail in 2025. The workshop led to excellent conversations around a wide range of topics including education, product utility, well-being, life styles, functionality, the role of services, consumer choice and the need for both incremental and radical changes.
