ECOnetwork Event
8th December Cardiff, Wales
On the 8th of December, EDC ran the first ECONetwork workshop for designers. This event was called "making sense of sustainability". Our guest speaker was Ed Gillespie from the sustainable communications agency Futerra. Ed has worked with numerous private and public sector clients to help them make sense of sustainability from a design/business/personal perspective. Ed also provided insights into the work of Futerra and more broadly the issues around trying to communicate sustainability issues (internally to the business and to clients).
During the workshops the designers were engaged in a “futuring exercise” and were tasked with proposing what design will look like in 10-20 years time. They were asked to propose what role will design play in business and society and how this would be different from now. Following this, the designers were engaged in a facilitated discussion on the actions they need to take now to move their businesses and thinking in the right direction.
Another key part of the workshop was a planning discussion on the next speakers/workshops we are lining up for the next 10 months. These will include speakers on sustainable materials, ecodesign methodologies/software, innovative business models, and supply chain and collaboration issues.
